Applications : Chlor - Alkali
Passing electrical current through a sodium chloride and water solution releases chlorine gas. Three different types of process reaction vessels or cells are used: Mercury, Diaphragm, and Membrane. Electrical power costs range from 35% to 70% of the total cost of producing chlorine. Accurate electrical monitoring of chlorine processes improve process performance, cost visibility, environmental compliance, and safety.
Process Applications
Mercury and Diaphragm processes in particular utilize a number of rectifiers in parallel to obtain the required current levels. In order to obtain the electrical information needed for effective process control, a single measurement of total process current is ideal.

 | Power Conversion Applications
Chlor-Alkali processes operate at their most efficient when the electrical supply is both stable and reliable. Current instability leads to numerous process efficiency problems thereby increasing costs. Such instability can cause process cell damage and even endanger staff and facility.
Highly dependable and responsive measurement systems are needed to
Provide current data to rectifier control for optimum performance and stability
Provide overall multi-rectifier balance indication
Provide a backup ‘totalized’ current measurement signal for mainline current
Sense power conversion equipment failures to protect process, equipment, staff
Analyze rectifiers condition to determine condition & maintenance requirements
